Upgrade oilpump on early S?

Just finished disconnecting everything to drop the engine tomorrow. I now have basically all parts to do the rebuild but one thing is nagging me; should I upgrade the oilpump (and pressure valves)?
I did not have any complaints about oil pressure but I am a bit anal in getting things right. Are there any definitive advantages? And if so, should I get a used one or a new pump?

Peter,

You can do the 'bypass mod' with the new plungers and spring & guide ... without having to update the oil pump. That change alone reduces the load on the scavenge pump and intermediate shaft, and probably saves a hp or two as the result.

The benefit of the later '76 Turbo/SC, '84 Carrera, or 964 pump is greater pressure pump volume and higher resulting oil pressure.

Peter,

What is it going to cost you to do this rebuild?

Cool

Thanks Warren, interesting thought. I am going to consider this.

Costs: I stopped counting, it's kind of a black hole moneywise. I am going to put in new P/C's, intermediate gears, chainwheels, big/little end rod bearings, main bearings and some other work. Heads were done last year together with MFI pump, t-bodies and cams. As long as the girlfriend does not find out.. ;-)
