Looking for my old 911
I am trying to track down my dads 1973 911 T. He is the original owner and over the years have talked about trying to get it back. We have the original window sticker with vin #. The problem is we tried using Carfax but the vin is not recognized due to a ten digit vin and being an old car. My question is has anyone tried to find an old car with a ten digit vin and how did you do it.

is it a 73.5 (had CIS) or an early '73 model
also post the original color Post on Early 911S bbs (they'll let you in); contact PCA (join it) & old local newsletters from PCA Finally, write a letter to the state DMV in which the car was last registered and get as much info on subsequent sales as they will tell you. Expalin re your dad, etc. - they are often very helpful but privacy laws prevent them from giving out names and addresses. BUT, when I tried this, a few DMVs did offer to send a letter with MY contact info in it to previous owners (I am #6) so they could contact me (none did). It's a lot of work and may not work... |

Post the car description on as many porsche related forums as possible. I bet it shows up.
I was able to file a form with the CA DMV to obtain the original owner information for my six. They asked for the reason I was trying to contact the former owner and I said I was restoring the car and wanted to see if the original owner may still have some of the original parts. They felt that was legit and turned over what they had. Cost me $5 if I recall correctly. Good luck and think like a junior detective.

Thanks for the help. The car is/had mechanical fuel injection and the original color was Signal yellow. The last time I saw the car was back in the mid seventies and it was registered in Florida.
