How would you go about building a 3.2 SS from a Euro C3?
I have a 76 Euro Carrera 3.0 with the 2.7 crank. I have almost convinced myself to undertake a 3.2 SS rebuild this year:
Questions: 1) If I created a 3.2SS via 98mm pistons, should I still keep the SSI's or are they now undersized? 2) I read a comment in one of Wayne's books (I think), where you could change the crank in a C3 from 70.4 to 66.0 to make a 'revvier' engine. Has anyone done this? What would the performance bump / and or characteristics be with the new crank? Can you keep the CIS? I can't seem to find any comments on this modification? 3) Is a 3.2 98mm piston kit bolt on? i.e. could the car be reverted back to a standard C3 3.0 for originality at some stage in the future? |
Its just like doing it on any other 3.0. You want Carrera cylinders for the liners and if you short stroke the engine, the specifics has to be known to the piston maker so the compression can be worked on. Putting 9.5 pistons ao a short stroke will not leave you in the 9,5 cr arena.

Buy a set of Max Moritz 3.2 P&C's for the 3.0 motor. It's a bolt-on & gives you a 3.2 w/ a 70.4 stroke to still keep the revs up. This is a great package when coupled w short gears. A 66mm crank & rods would be too costly to change over unless your original cannot be used, and you will lose torque as well. Then you need Cams & Webers to recover the power lost. All this cost even more $$$. Len :) |
