911sc hesitating when under a load
My 81 911sc is hesitating when I put a decent load on it. It idles fine, but if you push down on the gas hard, it looses power. I know it's not the gas. I'm thinking an ignition problem?
I am needing help quick here, I am stuck in SC trying to get home to NC Thanks, John |
hi ,
could be ignition and or timing , check vacuum line is connected to advance on dizzy. It could also be the cat...any noise coming from the tailpipe on acceleration...my cat was gone and the car would idle like yours but on acceleration no power, cat caused lots of back-pressure and loss of power. jm2c, ben |
Depending on how old they are, I would replace the distro cap and rotor, spark plugs, and air filter, as well as the plug wires if you so desire. This can be a relatively inexpensive fix and solves many seemingly serious ignition issues. Its quick and you can get the stuff at your local auto parts store. You can also change the fuel filter, that may help but is a bit more tough to do if you have no tools and are out on the road.

I see in a previous thread you were having problems with the mixture adjustment on the cis. Have you removed any spark plugs to see how they look? They can give some insight into how it is running. They could be black from oil burning or rich mixture, tan to off white for clean burning, or white from too lean. If they are wet with gas then the ignition could be the issue. Has the smoke out of the exhaust looked black, blue, or white? Has the car backfired? Is there a pop off valve in the air intake?
