1969 911
Does any one have an idea what a 1969 911 in fairly good condition is worth? Also, does any one here have any comments
about the 1969 911? JoeF |

My opinion as an owner of a '69E is that it is a great "Sportscar". The engine doesn't feel as small as a 2 liter at all. We also have a Ford Contour with a 2 liter 4 cylinder (not a bad motor in a fairly light body) and the 911 is a heck of a lot faster. It will also blow the doors off of my previous 944. I haven't driven any later 911s for comparison and I'm sure that they are faster, but the 2 liter is certainly plenty fast.
Since it was built 33 years ago, it certainly doesn't have the luxuries of later cars. The interior has a bit of a "time-warp" feel being designed prior to most safety standards came into affect. (Speaking of which, I always get a kick out of the exposed 12V post in the engine bay just behind the fuel filter! I've got mine covered with duct tape.)As a "stripped down" sports car in the vein of a TR6 or MG to name a couple of British favorites, it's great. Since I was a kid in the late 60's, it also personifies what I always dreamed about Porsches. When I drive it I can't help thinking about Vic Elford, Steve McQueen, 917's and all of the other images of that era. If you are like that then it is the car for you. If you are not, then it is not.

Well said John...very well said. It's almost a spititual thing, the early 911. A direct connection feeling that the new cars can't deliver. Value? Price? It all depends on the model...and condition..condition..condition. The range is from $1,000 parts cars to used Boxter level, and beyond...

Yeah, ugly isn't it. At least the factory had a plastic cover for those two blue fuses in your picture so that you couldn't short against them by accident. The post is real convienent for hooking up the MSD as I see you have found. Like I said, a piece of duct tape to prevent an accidental short adds a lot to my piece of mind. If the car gets hit bad enough to rip the tape, I'll be having other problems...
