It is just condensation, nothing serious to worry about. Just means you need to drive your SC on longer drives. You need to get it up to operating temperature which in turn will burn off all the moisture in the oil system.

Long enough to get the oil up to temp. 15-20 minutes should be enough but get the needle in the middle part of the temp gauge.

The moisture in the oil filler neck will not appear when your oil gets up to normal temp on a regular basis.

I commute 45 minutes each way every day, and I always have moisture on my filler cap and "mayonnaise" stuck to the filler tube walls. I assume it's just because I live in Oregon - it rains too much. The car definitely warms up all the way, and gets exercised regularly. Does this seem reasonable to any other PNW owners?

Your not using Penzoil by any chance are you? I used to work at Volkswagen parts place and we had trouble with Penzoil in aircooled cars. We would tell customers to switch to Castrol or Kendall and the problem would dissapear. I use mobil 1 now in Sea. area, lots a rain no milky goo.

No, I'm using Castrol. I wanted dino oil for the first 3k miles after the rebuild, when I plan to switch to Mobil 1. I'm at about 2k miles so far, and things are still looking good...

I'm worried about the switch, as so far I probably have the only dry, leak free 930 on the West Coast! I've heard that Mobil 1 is more likely to spring a few leaks - but if it clears up the gack in the filler pipe I'll live with a drop or two on the floor.

the minute the engine starts to cool, condensation will begin to form. Running it regularly at temp will keep the volume of water to a minimum but not eliminate it.

If you want to really get an idea of the condensation that builds up, drain your oil when it's cold. The first flow from the tank is 3 to 4 ounces of dirty water, maybe more.
I prefer the cold drain method as it allows for maximum settling of the oil for draining. I also let it drip for hours.

I use Mobil-1.
No leaks, no goo.

i use Mobil 1. I have the muck in my filler neck. Seems to be there no matter how much it gets heated.

I always change the oil at winter lay away time. I was shocked one Jan day when I removed an oilline and oil didn't pour out. Reason? The condensation in the totaly unused engine had frozen in the lines.
