According to Peter Zimmerman, the 915 gearbox is identfied as LSD if there is a prominent "12" stamped on the case. Mine has a "12" in the middle of the part number stamped on the bottom of the case. The other way to tell is to jack up the rear end and rotate one wheel at a time by hand. The standard transaxle will rotate the wheels in opposite directions while the LSD will rotate them both in the same direction or will start and stop but not clearly rotate in opposite directions. I think this diagnostic depends on the age and wear on the transaxle. Either way you need to jack up the rear of the car to see the number on the trans or rotate the wheels.

Thanks for the "12" stamp info. I did the rotating the wheels (a common way on almost all LSD) and they rotate opposite but on a break lose condition both wheels grab. I will look for the "12". Thanks a lot.

You might have an aftermarket torque biasing differential installed based on your description. They require resistance to initiate. Have a buddy hold the opposite wheel and try spinning the one closest to you again. If, under load, your buddy's wheel wants to spin the same way as your wheel, you've got a TBD in there.
