Is there a min spacing requirement between the caliper and wheel?
 

I am putting together a big brake package for my 78SC with 17" Fikse wheels. I have 14 inch rotors and F50 calipers for the front. My problem is the limited clearence between the caliper and inner wheel. Clearance between the caliper and wheel spokes is plentiful and a non issue. Obviously, if the caliper and wheel contact each other it doesn't work. Mathmatically, I should have about 1" clearance between the caliper and inner wheel. Is this enough cleance?

Unless I am missing something, the caliper is fixed, and the wheel is fixed so if there is clearance then you are good to go.

I do not believe that the calipers you discribe are the floating type. Are the rotors fixed or floating?? Even if they are I do not believe it would make a difference.

Wheels flex -- so what's sufficient clearance in normal driving might not cut it during extreme cornering. But they don't flex an inch.

Jack, you may want to check that wheel very carefully as it may be bent. From your picture it looks like the wheel and caliper have met on more than one occasion. If the wheel has several scrub marks on it you don't have enough clearance. If the wheel only has the one mark the wheel is bent.
Take your handy file and hit the caliper a couple times. Put some shoe polish or paint on the scuff mark and see if it still hits. Or you can install the thinest wheel spacer to move the wheel out.
Any clearance should be "enough".

Jack: that is some wheel flex! How much clearance (side-to-sdie) do you have with the Fuch /930 caliper set up? I had throught that only the 8"s in front had problems with the 930 set up. Is that the 9"s on the rear?

marcesq: Yes, the caliper is stationary, except for the side to side movement if I go with the McClaren floating rotor set up.
