Windshield wipers won't turn off!

So I am out putting some miles on my recent 3.0 into my 73 and it starts to rain. I turn on my wipers and when it finally stops raining, the wipers stay on when I put them in the off position ... WTF? Any help would be appreciated. On a side note, the R888's I have behaved very well in the wet.

Dumb question, but do you have the setting for delayed wipers that may still be on. I don't know if that was available in 1973.

That sounds like the wiper switch/stalk if messed up. Pull the fuse until you can R&R. But make sutre that you keep the fuse handy for the next rain shower.

CCM911, there are three settings; off, low, high on a 73, non of that fancy stuff.

4495, thanks did that finally.

There has to be an "easy" fix, right?

Per this site:

"Replace your windshield wiper switch with a new one. Replacement is fairly easy and straightforward, but requires steering wheel removal. For more information, please see our Pelican Technical Article, Steering Wheel Removal and Installation."

Might try some electrical cleaning spray before replacing? I don't know if you would have to remove it to do that. Good luck

Try the spray tech, worked for me, or move to Seattle whichever is easiest

Check you grounds. The wiper motor always has power because it needs to keep running after it is switched off until it reaches its parking position. I've seen loose or dirty grounds cause the wipers to not turn off... or the fun one: Turn on each time you hit a bump.

Check the ground stud right next to the battery. Check the crimp ends for corrosion. There may be other places to check on the early cars.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will give them a try and report back, and hopefully won't have to move to Seattle.

The electrical contact cleaner spray did the trick, just in case anyone else had the same issue.
