Anybody weld in some RSR strut bar mounts ?

Hey guys,

I plan on welding in some RSR strut bar brackets that i just received from TRE and it seems there is not much clearance on the driver's side between the shock tower and where the neck from the fuel tank and the junction hose from the filler neck are ...
I kind of figured i would have to remove the tank to weld in the driver's side bracket but did anybody do this themselves and do you have any tips before i get into this project ?

Thank you !

Cheers !
Phil

Hi
After you called this a.m., one of our clients wanted one installed, with a stock gas tank.
If you push the gas tank filler neck slightly inwards, it all fits without mods to the bracket. We moved the bracket back a little from standard install location- see these pics

Oh oh, I welded mine in without reference to the tank...

Mine is center-fill. :)

Did you weld in the rsr braces with the tank in?

wildcat077 01-20-2012 06:13 PM

No, the tank is coming out before i weld up the brackets !
I certainly don't want to blow up my car and the garage which is part of my house ... lol

Cheers !

Does the RSR type strut bar have a better function than the bolt on type?

I'm fitting coilovers to my car and are considering what kind of modifications I need to do in the front.

I'm doing it because i had the Weltmeister strut bar with the cheap mounting brackets that i had to reweld twice ...
It also frees up your strut mounting bolts as your strut bar is no longer attached to the strut plate. In my case i'm installing some Tarret camber plates and i wanted the cleaner look in the trunk area.
You can PM Dave at TRE,he's very helpful and should be able to answer your question !

Cheers !
Phil

I think you'll be okay. In a wost case scenario, you could trim the tank neck and use a longer rubber hose that would have some give.

Good point. Must remember to use the hack saw and not a cut-off wheel ;)

subbed.... I noticed this issue after I made/welded in my brackets... :( I guess I'll have to notch the left bracket

To do this on my 1984 Carrera, we had to move the fuel lines and remount the fuse box about 4 inches towards the nose. Here's a shot of the finished product:
