Rear outer CV Joint
911 (69), Rear outer CV joint. No noise, but appears "out of round"...i.e not symetrically round" when the wheel rotates. Therefore the CV boot also rotates asymetrically, when the wheel is rotated. Should the joint or perhaps the entire half shaft be replaced?

That CV-joint is supposed to have a pair of dowels or roll-pins for precise alignment of the joint on the drive flange! It sounds like the pins go left out at the last servicing or installation!

I see reference to roll pins on page 116 in 101 Projects for 911. Are these entirely located at the inner transmission joint, or should I be looking elsewhere for any means to adjust alignment at the outer joint? The inner joint and boot look good, it's the outer joint where the axle swivels asymetrically in the joint and where the odd rotation of the boot takes place. Does the half-shaft have to be removed for alignment? I'd hate to remove the entire shaft and cause a problem with the good inner boot and joint. Thank you.

All of the 4-bolt (M10 Allen bolts) CV-joints use the pins at both locations ... the inner and outer joints are the same part.

OK thanks. The outer boot is torn, so with it off, are the pins visible?, or only visible with the outer joint completely removed? (I've only had boots replaced before, but never on my 911. Additionally, I've never had work on my 911's axles at all)
