If this doesn't set the bar on early "S" prices...

nothing will. Ad in April 2002 Hemmings: 1972 911S coupe. 600 original miles. To be sold,(or not), at some auction in Vegas next week.

If this is a true shrink-wrapped, perfect brand-new '72 'S', anything less than the cost of a new 996 sounds fair to me. Seinfeld will probably get it. Love to know the story on this one.

It would be interesting to see Jay Leno and Mr S. get into a bidding war over it ...

If I win the lotto you can count me in on the bidding. That's my favorite 911!

To the best of my knowledge, Jay Leno is not a Porsche fan. Could be wrong, but I used to live near him and have seen countless of his cars, never saw one Porsche. Doesn't matter though, plenty of other guys w/ seven or eight figure incomes who like Porsches.

Only interesting thing here IMO is the back-story. People who buy a new expensive car and park it for 30yrs.? Even if it goes for $80G, what a lousy investment! Savings acct. would have done better. Weird.

And Bob, better win that lotto by next week!

I'm sure that car will fetch a hefty price.

Denis,

I couldn't agree with you more, but occassionally the accident happens. I found my 73"S" 15 years ago with less than 10k miles on it in a collectors garage in California surrounded by 30 other cars. The collector was an FBI agent that had been, shortly after buying the Porsche, relocated to Europe.

My car became a garage queen... not by necessity, because of the nature of where I live and work. Living and working in Manhattan really doesn't necessitate the ownership of, or need to drive a car. My car still has under 20k original miles on it!

I can only imagine what the 72 you guys are talking about will go for and I can't wait to hear the results. Seinfeld lives about a mile or so away from me in the city, so hopefully this will become his new toy... one of too many!

Regards,

Marc
