rear sway bar options
 

the patient; highly modified '66 (200 HP 1750#)
F torsion bars 19MM R torsion bars 26MM.
F sway bar 19MM through the body.
rear sway bar ??

intended use will be "spirited" (heh, heh :D) street & the occassional track / DE event.
I've done some reading & gotten conflicting views. one says "... BF rear bar" another says this increases oversteer and a small (or no) bar is preferred.
not sure if the issues are different because of the SWB. i won't be carrying those lovely cast iron weights in the front bumper ;)

Hmmm...short wheelbase, lightweight and decent power, with 26mm rear torsion bars and stock fronts and a 19mm front bar... I would suspect that you don't want a large rear bar. I would think something like a 19mm that is adjustable. It seems you're really only striving to achieve neutrality and a big bar is going to scream oversteer right off the bat.

IMHO. YMMV and all that.

Suggest you leave the rear sway bar off the car and see how you like it. Drove my track car without a rear sway for 7 years and had great control of the car. Easy throttle steering and very sweet in the turns.
If you don't like it, you can always add in a small bar. Definitely reduced oversteer issues. Slight lift and the nose tucks. Back on the throttle and the rear hooks up.

guys, great feedback. thanks! i'm leaning toward the no-bar option to start, but i want to do the upfront stuff now while the access is easy. is there a template for where to mount the perches for the brackets & where the drop links attach to the control arms ?

pages 13 & 35. he covers attachments well enough & i understand all of that. i'm a little hazy on orientation / positioning ... or is that critical?
i'm hoping to use my Weltmeister 22MM bar as a guide for layout, but does that mean that i'm stuck using a WM bar in the future ?

On a short wheelbase car, 19mm (it's actually 18.8mm) front and 26mm is already a lot of rear stiffness bias. The car likely would have too much oversteer with a rear sway bar.

You'd be better to bump the front torsions to 21mm, then add an adjustable rear sway.

thanks ... if it doesn't show I'm pretty clueless when it comes to suspension tuning. i had the rear torsion bars laying around & figured anything would be better than stock. i'll hunt for a set of 21MM fronts.

+ 1. I broke the rear mounts, got the new ones from our host. Did a couple of autox with no bar while waiting for them, liked it as it was. New parts are still in the box!
