				Nexen N3000 tires

Any Pelicans running Nexen N3000 performance tires? I am looking for substitutes for the NLA Hankook Ventus S2's or S3's, in a 245/45R16 (Fuchs 9"). I have no problem finding the Ventus S3 in a 205/55/R16 (Fuchs 7"), but I do not want to run dissimilar front vs rear tread patterns or tire brands. Intended use is street, spirited canyon driving, and maybe an occasional DE or AX. However, since the absence of above mentioned 245/45R16's, I am now relagated to search for a good performance/cost summer tire in the ever dwindling 16" size. Yes, I am aware there are good performance tires in a 16, but I am NOT paying $200+, or even $150+, for a decent perfomance summer tire, which are grenerally done in 10-15k mi (rear). Any suggestions would be appreciated...Happy New Year Pelicanites!

Look at the wear rating on the Nexen tires ... Wallmart sells them in Canada and i have a set installed on my son's Civic and i can swear that they are so hard that they have hardly worn down in three summers of driving ... I had Toyo TIR's on my 911 before i switched to 17 inch wheels and they were an excellent tire that comes in a large variety of sizes ! Went through three sets of Toyos during the 10 years i had my RX7 without any complaints or issues ! Although remember, you get what you pay for ! Just sayin ... Cheers ! Phil

Go to the Vulcan tire web site, and look at Falkens. Not a 60,000 mile tire, but very sporty and affordable.

I had a set of N3000s on some 18" wheels I bought for my 996. At first, I was skeptical, but the tires turned out to be quiet with a good ride and good grip. I liked them way better than the Pirellis that were on the car.

Thanks for the replies fellas... I am looking for sport tires, not a 60k mi rocks. I would however, like to see 20K mi from an inexpensive but good performance tire. Anyone else have any experience with Falkens?

I respectfully disagree...As stated in my initial post, the Hankooks performed exceptionally well for the price...And that is precisely the type of tire I am looking for.

I'm just saying that the NEXEN's on my son's Civic are rock hard ...They will probably be outdated before the are worn out ... lol I personally use Dunlop Star Specs as rain and everyday tires and Nitto NT01's for dry track days ! Hankooks are good tires as well,i have a couple friends using them for track days and they're satisfied with them . Take a look at the TOYO T1R's,i had them in 225/50/16 and 245/45/16 when i was using 8 (951 offset) and 9 inch Fuchs a few years ago ... The choice for good 16 inch tires is getting more limited these days ! Cheers ! Phil

Phil, Thanks! I had already looked into your suggestion on the TOYO T1R's. From what I have read, this is a good tire. I am still trying to find them in a 245/45R16, for my 9" fuchs, (reasonably priced), but so far have been unlucky. I did find them in a 245/35, 16 for $145 ea...The search continues... P.S. I dont think comparing tire wear on a 4 cyl. Honda Civic, to a flat 6 Porsche is comparing apples with apples. More HP and weight distribution (rear) in the 911, are the first two distinct differences that come to mind. Thank you for your reply/recommendation, and happy New Year! Paul

Tire availability in 245/45/16 is almost nil. Kumho had a 265/45, but it seems they stopped making them. The only 245s I can think of are a Fuzion and the Yoko ES100, but Tire Rack seems to be out of them as well.

The way it looks 8" and 9" Fuchs are going to be race wheels only soon as there doesn't seem to be a reliable source for 245/16 tires.

I am running Nexan n3000 on my 86 Carrera and have been very pleased. They were affordable and had the tough to find 245 width available (I run 16" 7/8 oem Fuchs). Great tire for the money. They are quiet, ride well and have good grip in dry weather. I dont track my car so i cannot comment on the performance of the tire. However i would buy them again for my car.

While I've heard that running 225/50s on 9" wheels can be problematic, I've had no problem running 225/50s on my 8"s -- Further, it would seem that a first rate tire in a 225/50 size could well have an advantage over a more compromised tire in a 245/45/16 size?

I have 205/55 and 245/45 x 16 Nexen 3000 tires on my '79 SC. Haven't run many miles on them but they feel much better than the Michelin Pilot Sports on my 993 4S. Good bump compliance, grip, and they're quiet, too (aren't all new tires?). Regarding the post that notesf hard Nexens on a Civic, I doubt that tire is anywhere close to the W-rated 245/45 Nexen. | ||

BTW, what is a compromised tire? Something less than the best? I dont track my car, so shelling out $200 + per, is out of the question as far as I'm concerned.
