I like sugar scoops. I like the Hella euro H4 lenses that are in there, and the light is pretty darn good, IMO.

I like my sugars too. With the Hella H-4's as the lights they work great and I do not feel at all bad about keeping the extra $420 in my pocket for fun upgrades!

Whew, what a relief! Thought this was going to be an off topic thread: "I fell in love with a 13 year old (car) and it feels so right". Sugar scoops are cool as long as you don't install one of those cheap black bras. Looks like we can stand down.

Is it wrong to like the scoops? Certainly not. Choice is good. I'll be the first to admit that the difference in function between the Hellas that were in my scoops when I bought the car and my newly installed Bosch H4s is minimal. It's all about appearance, and I prefer the appearance of the Bosch. No problems either way. Run the ones you like.

As an aside - I've been in love with the 911 since I saw my first one in 1971. I was most definitely underage at the time.

No, not really. The guy running only self-proclaimed Porsche shop in Eugene did not give me a good feeling when I discussed potential purchases with him last fall. I wrote him off as a resource. Subsequent chats with other Eugene-area Porsche owners have reinforced my first impressions.

But then again, that's an easy decision for me to make, as I can count on one hand the times I have paid someone to work on one of my cars over the last 30 years. I suspect that I will be my Porsche's wrench as well.

John, they are rare, but if you know where to look, and keep your eyes open, you can get one.

I've always heard the line "my garage is too full, I need to get rid of a car" line and thought it was a bunch of crap - a sellers line to hide why they are actually selling a car.

Until I picked up my Carrera. Then the UrS6 (1995) had to go - I didn't have enough space for it. I mean, my neighbors are nice and everything, but three Audis, a boat, a truck and a Porsche? No, I really did have a space problem, and the car with the most resale value and least actual utility had to go. Don't get me wrong - the UrS6 is about as good a sedan as you can find. If you do your won work, the cost of keeping it on the road ain't too shabby - I'd put it on par with a 4k mile/year aircooled Porsche, if the UrS6 is a daily driver. Actually the worst part about the S6 is that motor. From the factory, it is STUPID under-utilized. Seriously, those guys running Gruppe B were getting >1000HP out of that block and head. The 227HP from the factory is just a starting point. Bolt on (no kidding - factory Audi parts, with design help from Porsche) gets you 150HP for under $2500. And those cars with that motor FLY. No drag-strip monsters, but from 10 mph, you hit it and the boost will make you a believer.

The seats are the best sports seats I've ever sat in. The sport wheel is just about perfect. At 120mph, the car is dead-stable, quiet, and comfortable. It was meant to RULE the Autobahn, and in it's time, it did. Nowadays, you can pick one up for pretty short money - $5-8k, depending on what mods have been thrown at the car.

Add a set of snow tires, and the AWD + snows in the winter make the thing a total tank. If the wheels will turn, the car will get there. 3800 pounds of German steel, and you pretty much win any contest of mass if it comes to some idiot crashing into you. There are plenty of stories of UrS-car folks coming out unscratched in accidents where the car gives it's life for theirs. Plus, IME, the UrS car community is just as passionate as the 911 community. Smaller, for sure. But very diedicated. And just as willing to lend help, tools, and a place to spend the night if you need one.

I'm still sad about selling my S6, but the Carrera helps take the sting out a little. I *will* own another UrS-car someday. They are really good cars.

Actually, there are several who will love on your car. Kurt (Marque Motors) is my every day go to guy, Jeff (Rothsport Road and Race) for suspension and other "special needs", and, of course, Steve Weiner (Rennsport Systems) for advice and intersting parts.

My buddies also have others they use in the area but, for me, I find I guy I like and stick with him.

Agree 100% with Harry...these are the people you need to know in the Oregon area... all very good folks. Kurt is the best gu for oveall, and Steve certianly can help you stop and go a LOT quicker.:D

I hear you on the UrS6.....was very close to getting a '92 UrS4 (love the carbon fiber trim!), but ended up with a 100CS wagon instead....then bought a
735i...between the wife and I we had four: 98 A6, 98 M Roadster, the 7 and the wagon....the madness had to stop so the 7 and the wagon eventually went bye-bye. Now we have a CX-9 for the utility cruiser, the Targa for the coast and twisites, and the 540 for the commute and the rain. All is well (until the itch needs to be scratched again).

Still love that old Audi body style though...amazing that just a chip in the engine gets that thing up to about 300 hp...as you say a SERIOUSLY under tuned engine. That 5cyl turbo is pretty bulletproof too.

May be some in Bend too. Used to be a good guy in Creswell (!) but he got old and closed.

There is no one in Eugene I would trust.

Personally, I like the Bosch H4's because they are illegal, and I like living dangerously:)

I also like the side profile when you can see the lenses lit up at night. Compared the the sugar scoops and H4's, I didn't notice too much difference in output.

True, but so do Hella H4s in the sugar scoops. The Bosch are—as I admitted above—all about looks, not function. You can get the same light output for a LOT cheaper than the Bosch H4s.

Previous owner put the H4s on mine and they perform admirably...though I have to say you can't beat teh Xenon stuff....the lights in my wife's car are brighter than the sun....

And to RWebb, yes I did mean the Portland area...still a relative newbie here to the PacNW....am a former resident of the "Chicagoland Area..."

Interesting that you l drive a 540, but lust after the S6. I drive a 97 540i and am searching for the perfect Porsche! Had a 73E, but let it go due to kids, etc. 20+ years ago! I saw a pretty nice S6 for sale in K.C. (I'm in Missouri) a few weeks back and was tempted. How would you compare it to the 540? Sorry for the off topic!
