'84 Carrera factory security key

I know the manual says you cannot have a key made for the security switch in the door but I was wondering has anyone done it????

When I had my '84, I had a locksmith make a spare security key. The security key uses the same key blank as the old style rotary telephone lock. Take the key to a locksmith and let them know this and they should be able to make a spare.

no key

I appologize, I wasn't clear about not having a key, I do not have a key and was wondering if a key could be made from the lock. I have had a key made for a motorcycle from the lock in Canada. Sometimes its knowing what blank to use is the problem.

I'm in the same boat. Previous owner lost the alarm key. I'm not sure if it evens works so I don't know if its worth the hassle.

I read something about the key codes being listed inside the passenger door. Although taking the door panels off might be more work than taking the lock out to take to a locksmith.

How does the factory security system work anyway? What type of system is it and how does it work?

I suggest you talk to your local dealer. They can make original ignition/door keys from your VIN but they charge a fortune ($150 for one key). Not sure if they can do an alarm key. They should be able to order you a new key blank. This guy came recommended to me from another post:

Call him and ask what can be done.
