Fumes in 1971 911T targa sportomatic

Considering purchasing above vehicle--in excellent condition. Clean, down to the targa top, patina of the sport seats, no-sag door pockets, great britework, dry as a bone engine, no rust anywhere, orig COA, incredible acceleration even w/ the controversial sporto shift, its a demon of a drive! Paint is flawless and orig color.

But the car was hard starting, black smoke after ignition and acceleration (not the dreaded blue), several back firings, problems returning to 1000rpm at idle, and most troubling-----it gave me a major headache after the test drive----and asthma.
The seller flooded the carbs turning it over, so gas fumes could have lingered, but could be also coming from ---where?
Question is:

Can a vintage 911 ever be gas fume-free?

What can I expect the PPI to turn up w/ regard to carburation w/ the above symptoms?

Reasonable price once car is well sorted out?

Sounds like there's a leak somewhere from the headers to the heat exchangers.

Sounds like the car may have been sitting a bit before you looked at it.
That could cause the black smoke during start up.

Oil leaking from the exhaust valve covers onto the heat exchangers could leak into the heating system, causing the obnoxious smell in the cabin.

Engine popping and not returning to idle could be carb issues. Again from sitting, the idle jets clog up causing a lot of popping at idle.

All these sound like minor issues which could be cured by DRIVING the car!! Leakdown test will tell you for sure.

I would guess this car as described is worth >$30k.
