PORSCHE 'TRICKED' BY OWNERS CLUB

There were red faces in Stuttgart this week after Porsche officials realised they'd been sold a dummy by their own owners club. "A few years ago we sent out a questionnaire asking what existing owners would like to see from Porsche in the future," said an anonymous source (pictured, right), "When we saw the results we were surprised to find everyone wanted a large 4x4. So we
decided to make one. Now it turns out they were taking the piss."

"That's right," confirmed Randy Cough, President of the Porsche Club UK, "we liased with our European compadres to play a little prank. We decided to ask for the most ridiculous, un-Porsche thing in the world. We didn't realise they'd actually do it, the clots." "Gott in Himmel," said our Porsche source (in German), "What are we going to do? We've spent a fortune on this and now we are going to look like silly twats."

"Ha ha ha ha," laughed Francois Framboise of Le Renault Club De Europe, "We ourselves played a similar trick a few years ago. We asked for a stupid, jacked up, four-wheel drive version of the Scenic, covered in ugly and disjointed plastic panels. The kind of thing no one in their right mind would buy. But at least Renault didn't actually make it! Oh, hang on, they did. Merde!"

There was a better one on Rennlist for 4/1:

---------------------

Subject: [914] Porsche to Produce New Version of the 914 in 2003

I just saw a press release on the Porsche main headquarters website that they will produce a new version of the 914 in 2003! Targeted for the under $25K segment that Porsche has long neglected, the new car's body style will be loosely based on the original 914 (2-seater Targa w/mid-engine, front & rear trunks, flat-four engine) but updated with modern
technology:

- 2.2L turbocharged flat four, water cooled, 240 HP / 200 ft-lb torque
- Six-speed manual transmission
- Aluminum box-member chassis, all fiberglass bodywork
- 1750 lbs
- 0 to 60 mph: 4.2 seconds, 1/4 mile: 12.7 sec, top speed 155 mph
(limited)

When the chief engineer on the new car (designated as the Porsche 999) Eng. Helmut Kriegel, was asked by the media if the 999 would have any impact on Boxter sales, he replied, "Not at all. The 999 is targeted at the sports car enthusiast who is only concerned with performance instead of suburban housewives who want a 'Chick Car'". There is no power steering, no power brakes, no power windows, and no 'friggn' cupholders. You will be lucky if we give you carpet. This thing is designed to blow the doors off of all that Ricey-Ricey crap and hulking big-butt Mustangs out there, and to suck the eyeballs out of any unsuspecting Z06 owner who happens by. We will race this car and regain our heritage!!! Porsche Uber Alles!!!". Kriegel then passed out, fell over and was carried away by attendents.

Release of the new car is planned for February 30, 2003. Porsche dealers in the SF Bay Area are already taking orders, and are requesting to be paid in gold bullion, or with fresh transplantable body parts.

I'll buy one of the new 914s!!!

The only power option I want is the radio, and that's negotiable!

Hey now! Don't accuse the Boxster of having cupholders...
