Targa Top alignment pin broken
Okay please dont tell me the worst...
I have a pristine Targa top in just about every way . Inside and outside are in tip top shape. However i did not notice a small crack in the rubber condom that covers the rear alignment pin drivers side . Must have been a while ago as water has penetrated without me noticing and the pin snapped off due to corrosion. Okay 87.00 for a new pin big deal . But it looks like I have to disasemble the entire roof to install it . Tell me this isnt so :( coz we all know that is huge ridiculours dollars .. I just looked at my assembled and unassembled tops and frames, it does look like you may have to remove the top tin plate to access that pin. (complete disassambly due to rivets)
I had one break off on my old car and I drilled and tapped both pieces and screwed them back together using a threaded #10 or #12 machine screw that I made into a stud. Add a little epoxy and if you are careful it should last until you are ready for a top rebuild. |

Contact Dan Petchel (Vintage Porsche Parts and Targa Tops for Porsche) and ask him how to proceed. You may only need to remove the cover to get access. |
Hey Guys thanks for the responses.
Dan will be in Hershey so i will ask him. I was worried about the tin removal too. I had a simalar idea about the epoxy so i have already drilled it out. it is really hard to hit dead centre with both holes though. I am not sure i have the tallent to tap put both pieces but I was thinking of driving in a roll pin and putting it together with some JB weld , and just put the condom over the whole thing. I think it is just a guide anyway. |
Hey Timmy I Drilled out last night so i am rying to go your route . My drill holes arent dead centre though so i am going to be off a bit. do you remember what drill bit size you used ? i am up to about a 1/8th and dont want to go too much bigger. Maybe 3/16ths but thought i would ask first
