Ground strap- copper or ?

Does anyone know what the battery ground strap is made of?
I am in the process of fixing the corrosion mess caused by an over charging battery in my 77 911.
I dropped the ground strap into some vinegar to let it soak over night. It is now a nice silver color, with some areas that are either rust or copper, I can't tell yet.
Anyone know the material?

Okay, so I shouldn't wait for it to turn copper color in the vinegar.

Yes the TR8 was rare and cheap and I couldn't pass it up, though I would love a MGB-GT V8, that is a very cool car.

Nope.

I took a 72 B pulled out the cast iron 4 and shoe horned in a 215 aluminum V8!
I used the motor out of an old Rover saloon, not the detuned Range Rover lump that the factory used.

New ground straps are only $16 in the catalog. Honestly, a weak ground strap can cause way more than $16 in aggravation.

And remember guys...the block or frame place where the cable will be connected MUST be clean...and shiney if it can be.
If in doubt as to whether the connection is clean or not...imagine licking it with your tongue!
You don't really lick it...but you get my drift....LOL
In electronics and electricity....cleanliness is ahead of the other part.
I have seen too many supposed connections that simply were not connected properly.
One of the quickest checks is to touch the connection after it has been turned on (flowing power) for a while...if it's warm or hot...it's a BAD connection!!
With power flow...resistance creates heat...bad for everything.

+1
After removing and cleaning all the major earth points on my 3.2 and re-fitting with new fixings and using copper slip on re-assembly the motor turns over so fast and effortless now wether hot or cold, before it always felt like it had a flat battery very embarrassing, especialy after filling up at the petrol station well worth the effort and time involved.

It's not a Porsche ground strap, just a ground strap that carries domestic current.
