Cost to add flares to a narrow body?

I have a 73 T that was saved from an engine fire 6 years ago. At that time, I put fg rs front/rear bumpers and added a fg duck tail. I now have a 3.0 in the car and it is set up for the track. I am thinking of finally adding some sc flares so I can get 8" wheels under them. I assume I will need a new fg rear bumper. I have seen sc flares on here for around $200. If I go this route, what should I expect to pay all in? Thanks, Mark

Leave the car as is. If you are looking for greater performance, look at R compound tires. Not sure what your abilities are, but most driver's abilities will not out perform the R compound abilities.

Mark, I've been thinking the same.
However, after figuring out the cost of new wheels 15/8's, tires and the flares. The price jumps up to the 3k + range. Also the choice of tires is not too good.
So, I'm staying with the 15/7 wheels, Toyos RA1 225-50-15 in the rear.
15/6, 205-50-15 front.
Here's a motivation pict. to stay as is.

Good luck with you decision

Gino
BTW nice car

Rattlsnak, yes steel flares and that would include repaint of the panel. I will check out the website.

Scooter, I am running 15x7's all around with Toyo R888 in 205/225 now. It is a good drive to the track and run tire.

Ginot912, yeah nice ride... so it is north of $3000? Maybe staying as is the right decision...

Please keep it narrow! Not too many original narrow bodies around anymore.

just had sc flares put onto my '74 a couple of months ago. I got the flares at an unbeatable price and to butt weld the flares cost me $3000 total. Note that this was only for the flare work and that I also had paint and other body work done through the same company. you will also have to factor in the cost of new rocker panels and rear bumper extensions.

a pre 74 car wont have to get rockers or bumper extensions and the price is more like $2,200 and thats welding the flares, painting the qtrs and with blending in the doors..

Gino,
Beef up your rear torsion bars. Tricycles don't corner as well as go-karts.

Save yourself while you can!

It is a slippery slope my friends..........

The fiberglass bumpers, steel rear flares and 930 front fenders were from TRE. approx $1800

I did all the work except the final paint of entire car. $3500

Would I do it again...no. I'd keep my SC with a hot 3.0 Mainly because I've been working on her for almost 3 years and missing out on seat time!

The slope has lead me into spending a ton of $$ on a killer engine, brakes, G50 etc, etc, etc.

But, she is a BEAST! I VOTE NARROW!

I have built a long hood RSR but now find myself smitten by narrow bodied AND IROC look cars.

Throw a cover over that narrow car, do nothing but look at pictures of long hood RS flared car, then in the spring, you'll find the narrow car refreshing to look at :-)

Another vote for keeping her narrow.
You can run 15x7s with 225.50s on all corners.
I have 6, which the best 2 go on the rear, next best 2 on the front, and last 2 as spares.
Rotating tires really helps with the already expensive cost of track time.

Since there is voting going on, I suggest you forget the SC flares and go turbo! Don't let these guys peer-pressure you into keeping it skinny - nothing like how a turbo flared 911 looks! I can't imagine how anyone would look at the two, and prefer the narrow-bodied look?!

I've just decided that I need both
a 73 narrow body
and a 74 IROC
to go along with my 73 RSR look.

Maybe I also need a 75RSR with vented fenders!

a slippery slope indeed...

Good luck on your decision.
