Coastal Gear Oil 80W90
Hey guys,
I know a few people have bought from Amazon thinking it was Kendall. Just curious if anyone has actually used it and what results they got? I did a search and majority of people just went and bought Swepco/Kendall but did anyone actually give it a try? I bought these 6 months ago thinking it was Kendall and didn't check the packaging til today... Amazon.com: NS-MP Hypoid Gear Lubricant, 1 Qt SAE 80W-90: Everything Else

Packaging doesn't say Kendall. Not sure where the confusion comes from. The Coastal brand is probably okay for a typical differential. Your 911 is a combo transmission and differential - different requirements. The application is a 915 gearbox - yes?
If so, buy the recommended Swepco. S |

For the amount of oil required and the replacement intervals,i would use the best available oil on the market ... although there are many different opinions on the subject !
I personally use Quaker State 75w140 fully synthetic in my 89 G50 and it's available at our local Canadian Tire stores ... popular consensus has it that Swepco works best for your application. Cheers ! Phil

I called Phillips conoco regarding this claim and their official position was that they could neither deny or confirm that it was in fact their oil
brilliant! I bought the right stuff from Pelican...no sense in being silly about it, its cheap as hell to get the original BTW - great oil !

I called Kendall and spoke with an engineer and yes they package Coastal but it is to Coastal specs not Kendall's. That is all they would tell me.

I'm in Seattle, sort of near the coast. Would Coastal gear oil be OK to use in my 915?

Should be good especially if you roll downhill in neutral.

The Coastal gear oil is GL5 rated. As such there should be no problem in using it in a Porsche transmission. That's not saying that I condone it or know anything about the particular oil. I am just saying that it is rated for hypoid ring and pinions, as found in our gearboxes.

While we're in the mood, I have a case (12 qts.) of Lubrimatic Synthetic Gear Lube, 75W-140. $35 will call. If not in your Porsche, then...... Shipping costs might offset the price discount.

Ok thanks guys.
When i bought it from Amazon a year ago, it actually said Kendall on the link and got coastal instead. Trying to bring it up with Amazon and get a refund/replacement but yeah just curious if anyone had any experience with it. Appreciate the input.
