CV Joint conclusion and steaks all around at the shop

Well, yesterday (Thursday), Doug, the owner operator of the Monroe dealer, said he could get me a complete half shaft at a good price (with both CV joints and boots of course). Well unfortunately, the winds were taken out of my sails, when I returned from work, he called and said the half shaft would have to be sent to Cal. for a rebuild! Well forget that, as no way I’m leaving the Porsche anywhere overnight. This dealer has done excellent work for me before on a "bigger" car, so I was disappointed. So today I drove 120 miles round trip to the Porsche-Audi dealer, and good news they had a boot (and other new parts), so I returned to Doug at Monroe, and out of good will gesture, he elected to install the boot, myself supplying the parts from Porsche, after the long drive back. Now for the work: The shaft had to be completely removed to get that rear outer boot on. I helped out a little, (holding a light, fetching rags, and some bearings, etc.,), which is another reason I like Doug and the help at Monroe, as I am physically present with the car, helping out when I can, in the shop. The joint was removed from the wheel side, by removing an outer retaining clip, removing and cleaning the 6 silver ball bearings, and removing the joint. The whole shaft came out. And I saw first hand the entire work up close. The tough part was the repacking of those six bearings. The retainer for those bearings had to be in just right. Took several runs to get them just right so the wheel stays free. Well the job was done I tipped Doug for steaks in the Monroe shop refrigerator. So Monroe will get my rear end tire business next (as are several mufflers, pipes, and disc brakes on another car). Good will gesture all around by Monroe muffler and brake, and myself.
