Anyone out there made their own #s for Auto-X or TT?
 

i have a friend who is currently designing me some numbers for the local PCA auto-x series. She's going to print them out on some extra big paper so that we can make stencils from them, but then i'm kind of unsure how to proceed. should i go to a local TAP plastics and get colored vinyl and then glue it to a cutable magnetic strip? Can i get the color magnetic strip in colors? if it's the vinyl and magnet glue trick, does anyone know what adhesive works best?

I made my a set of magnetic numbers. I bought the magnetic sheet and vinyl. The vinyl has the glue on it already. I think I ordered the supplies from this place www.dickblick.com

You can usually buy white magnetic material at your local sign shop. They usually have some scrap pieces big enough for number that they may sell cheap. I print out the numbers I want from my Mac and then use these as a template, cutting the material with an Exacto knife. Straighter the number the easier (1=easy, 8=pain in the butt). If you don't want white numbers you can also buy sheets of the colored film/vinyl. I use this after the magnetic is cut, apply the film, and then use the magnetic number like a template to trim off the extra film.

Most of the race shops have graphic departments that will make magnetic numbers for you as well. A little more $$ - but professional looking. That's what I'll be doing.

It's handy to have a few extra numbers. You never know when you'll show up to an event and find someone has your number painted on their car. How thoughtless!

Personally, I found a font that had a 6 that worked well upside down as a 9. You can be 6, 9, 66, 69, 96, and 99.
