Another noob question

So up to a few days ago, my interior lights above the door would not turn on if the door was open. I was fine with that. Randomly it started working when the driver side door was open.

If i have the key in the ignition but the car isnt turned on, it now makes a funny noise when the door is open and light is on. Like a continuous beep. If i close the door, noise goes away and light turns off

If i leave the door open and start the car, the noise goes away but light stays on.

Is the noise normal?

I have a 1987 so??? But on the 1987 the interior dome lights rock three positions "on","off", and "switched; on when door open, off when closed". This could explain the lights. Is the sound like a warning buzzer? On my car there is no sound for seat belt etc...but PO may have disabled it???

Yeah i haev the 3 positions on the light as well.

It does sort of sound like a seat belt warning sign. But its when the door is open...

In my 87 there is a warning buzzer when the key is in the ignition, not turned on and door is open. The lights come on regardless of the key when doors are open assuming they are in the switched position. Press left side of light for off, right side of light for on, centered (neither side pushed) for switched.

Other than maybe your buzzer is old and not sounding quite right, what you describe is normal.

Quicker answer....

"hey dude, you left the key in the ignition and appear to be leaving me".

Make sure your steering wheel is 'locked' before opening the door.
Just twist the wheel one way or the other to get it to lock before or while exiting the car. I found this out by accident when I was test driving my car. Always was a buzzing when I opened the door. I happened to brush the steering wheel with my knee while exiting one one time, and it locked the wheel and the buzzing quit immediately.

HTH,
Craig

Ah ok thanks for the answers guys.

was just worried coz i had a battery drain before so wanna make sure nothing like that is happening again. Tested with 10A mode on my DVM and it seems all is well.
