Post Question regarding vintage racecar organizations

Today I closed a deal on a 70’ 911S, which is to be the next project. The plan for this one is an acurate 73 RSR replica. I don’t have immediate plans on racing, but I think it will be prudent to build the car to specs that will allow it to be within class in some vintage racing organizations. My question is; which organization(s) are currently the most dominant for vintage racing. I need to acquire membership and/or at least rule books to minimize re-work or mistakes. Many parts from this S will be for sale soon…Engine is good with good Webers, front fenders are rust free overall and in the buckets, trans will be sold, 6” Fuchs are straight and free of rash. Much more as I get into it I’m sure.

Also, on a last note…The most attractive way for me to get into the S was to also relieve the seller of a very nice 81’ SC coupe. Euro spec, dark metallic green, saddle leather interior, 85k on the clock, PW, sunroof, Alpine CD player, new top end, new syncros, 10x16 rear and 8x16 front period correct BBS rims. Car is tight and straight. No rust and excellent mechanical cond. Needs some minor cosmetics, which I’m already on. Car was on it's way to a club racing career (which never occurred) but rear fenders are cut with 9" f'glass flares attached and 74 RSR rear bumper. E-mail for full details and photos, if interested.

Ill be interested in following your RSR project as that will be my next one as well. Please keep the board posted and any good info on the project mistakes/lessons learned would be great.

Where are you located? Many clubs have a pre 68 cutoff, while others don't. My father and I race Austin Healey Sprites in VARA (Vintage Auto Racing Association), which is based in Southern California. Post 68 cars (all long wheelbase cars) would run in the regular run groups but be classed as a Group 3, or exhibition class. I believe the RMVR, which is based in Colorado, won't allow post 67 911s or 912s, even though the 68's are still SWBs and mechanically the same. HSR (Historic Sports Racing), which has bost an east and west coast chapter allows the post 68 cars as well. I see a lot of RSR bodied cars in pictures of their races. In VARA, most of the 911s and 911S' run in C Production, and a lot of them are 2.2 or 2.4. But I get a kick out of is watching Austin Healey Sprites beat them. Ever seen a 911S get outpowered down a straightaway by a Sprite?

Efrain...Thanks I'll look into VARA. I'm in the Nashville, TN area. Back when I had an MG Midget, there was an organization called SVRA (Sportscar Vintage Racing Assn., I think)...seemed pretty progressive and attracted some serious old racecars. I used to go watch at Watkins Glen..was there for the GT-40 reuinion and it was fantastic.

Anyway, thanks...will look at VARA and HSR. Photos of the RSR project will be up somewhere soon.

You may want to also look into VSCDA (Vintage Sports Car Drivers Assn).
www.vscda.org
Most of their events are at tracks in MI, IL IN and WI, which wouldn't be too far to haul from TN for a weekend.
Of note is the fact that they sanction the Brian Redman International Challenge at Elkhart Lake, along with a September event there as well. This would you give you the opportunity to drive Road America at least a couple of times a year (more if you want to go PCA Club Racing as well)which IMHO is the best circuit in the country.
Good luck!
