911 factory rear skid plate
I am starting to restore my 73 RS F.I.A. Rally car back to it's original glory. I am looking for a factory period correct rear skid plate. I would either buy one, or could copy if I even had good pictures. As long as I have been around these cars, never have I even seen one off a car. They were made from a series of aluminun tubes webbed together. They offered protection for the engine and transmission.
Any help would be appreciated!! |

I'm trying to get a complete history on the car, but what I know currently is that the car was run in the 1978 Monte Carlo rally by the Brack brothers, privateers who owned an industrial supply business in Germany. Before the Brack brothers, it raced professionally, and shows signs of having been rallied for several years--it has an aluminum Matter cage, Halda speed pilot, and a factory flexible light on the windshield pillar for the navigator, among other mods. There is no chassis damage or rust. The car was taken off the road after Monte Carlo and has been in storage ever since. I put the car in storage, as I have a few other projects to finish before I dive into that one; I'll post pictures as soon as I can.

Oh, then probably not. Just seemed like quite a coincidence that John Buffum is probably one of very few Americans to rally a 911 Carrera RS in FIA events, he lives in Burlington, you live in Burlington...

I know, it's a strange coincidence. John's a friend of mine and his shop is about a mile from mine.

No help for Rick, but Ron, you may want to take a look at the skid plate on the bottom of this 911 SC/RS
http://www.symbolicmotors.com/frames/images/Classics/CurrentClassics/1984Porsche911SC-RS/index.html ![]() Andf this one Matt Holcomb took pictures of: Visitors from the Porsche Museum -- Part II It is pissing me off, but I have seen pictures of the early factory rally engine guard somewhere recently, and I can't for the life of me remember where. Maybe an Excellence article? Was there something about Porsche in the Safari rally a few months ago? Tom |

This car ran the 78 Monte Carlo Ralley driven by Joesph Brack and his brother was the navigator. Originally the car was orange and built as a Rally car early in it's life. Then it went to another owner and was painted yellow. The Bracks painted it white and did several rallies with the car. Someone added RSR flares to all 4 corners. I might put it back to original body style. It depends on what I can get for early photos of the car. I believe early in it's life it was raced professionally. It has a aluminum Matter cage, Halda speed pilot, navigator's windshield pillar mounted interior flexible lamp. Rear master cylinder attached to the ebrake. Left and right pressure adjust for the rear brakes. many more little details.
Covering the original Porsche round window sticker in the right rear quarter window is a Kremer Racing round sticker. Possibly they built the car. J. Brack died in 1991 and a U.S. man bought the car into the U.S.A. in 1999. At that time the car came from Manfred Friesinger. He probably knows about the car, but is a little difficult to contact. I've only had the car a week and will focus on a all out investigation at some point. |

If the car has F.I.A. papers. but did not come with the car, .there will be another copy which will be held by the German F.I.A. this should have the cars history

James, Thanks for getting involved in the investigation. By german registration, do you mean the plate # ? Don't believe the car has been on the road for 25 years. The F.I. A. would be the source for all info. I am told they aren't that easy to get info out of. Would they have info on the car by chassis #, or do I need to get all the drivers names? How far back does the F.I.A. go?
I am in Europe often and would be interested in stopping in England and checking out your ST. I think those are the pinacle is eary 911 cars. |
