HELP! In the middle of a project....
I need help.
I have the tie rod tube off but can't get the inner tie assembly off. Any ideas? Also, how do I remove the outer without having to go buy a tie end removal tool? ------------------ Josh Black on Black '84 Carrera |
there is a special tool for taking off the inner tie-rod, but you can try a punch to turn it off by hammering. You can split the outer tie rod end off with a pickle fork, but you'll ruin the rubber boot, and you'll get an absolutely sickening feeling in your stomach as you beat on it; swinging a 32 oz. hammer towards your porsche. Your car will be telling you " get the $39 puller you cheap #@**@!.... later, MAX.

I need some more suggestions on pulling the inner tie rod. The outer I'm using the tool for.

A big flat bladed screw driver and a rubber mallet should work. See the how-to in the technical articles here on pelican. I did it exactly as the instructions stated and it was fairly easy. Be sure you are rotating the ring in the right direction.
