A few clutch and heater backdate questions

Hi guys,

decided to check out a few things while I am waiting for parts to arrive.
I looked at the air exits on the side of the fan shroud and see that it is already blocked off, and the left side has big duct on it, any suggestions on how I should proceed.

Also i took a video of the clutch mechanism under the car to see if you all think this is the correct movement for the arms or if the clutch cable may be bad.

Thanks

the driver side duct should have plastic tubing connecting it to an electric blower fan on top of the engine and to the ducts running to the heat exchanger. the block off plate on the passenger side is standard. It looks like you have no heating whatsoever. to backdate you replace ducts on both sides and run tubing from the duct to the heat exchanger.

Here's one way:

Quick ‘n’ Dirty 911 SC Heater Backdate

I replaced many with the early style heater ducts.

If you can't weld, here is an alternative

930.106.321.02 - will not require clearancing the distributor.
930-106-321-01-PH - will require some messaging to get it to fit around the distributor.
911-106-322-01-PH

Our host sells all of the ducts listed above.

If you go here
Ducting from Aircraft Spruce

You can buy some hose to connect the ducts to your heat exchangers.

thanks,

any ideas on clutch, looks like the engine drop is inevitable, as im not getting any movement even starting it in gear.

I think your spring looks ok based on this thread.

are you saying that if you start the car in gear with your foot off the clutch, the car is not moving?

correct schumicat, no wheel turning at all

schumicat 02-06-2012 07:01 PM

can you push the car while it's in gear? if so the trans. is stuck in neutral.

adamr 02-06-2012 07:16 PM

its currently up on stands, ill have to drop it back on tires and see if it rolls (or try spin the wheels in the air) .
EDIT:

I just ran out into garage, and I put it in gear and the wheels are turning in all gears, with very little resistance . Now what?

Thanks for your help

If the wheels are turning, while it's in the air and in gear, than I'd say you need to adjust your shift linkage. Can you find any gear with your shifter? Try adjusting the shift coupler using the method in this link, and see where you're at.

I can find all the gears without much issue, can hear and feel when they engage. Can the blown rubber center of the clutch give the same symptoms?
EDIT I opened the tunnel, and see the boot has disintegrated to nothing, and the bushings in the coupler are totally gone, and I would imagine the bushings in the shifter are probably the same. Can this large amount of play be why Im stuck in neutral?

Better give a shout out to the coupler whisperer Ed Mitchell...ivangene here on the forum. Looks like you need to start at the front and work your way back replacing shifter, shift rod, and coupler components before getting into clutch or tranny problems. What is living under the floor in that car?

Thats the boot that just completely dry-rotted to nothing. The bushings are non-existent, cant believe the suffered the same fate, and were destroyed. I have a short shift kit that came with the car, so will install it, and see if I can source the bushings locally, or ill have to send the coupler off.

Can i use the selector arm dis-connected to try put tranny in gear?

With the coupler disconnected you can reach in the access hole and put the car in gear. I recommend the WEVO PSJ for your shift coupler. No bushings to wear out.

UPDATE:
I found a set of Weltmeister bushings in the box of goodies that came with the car including a Weltmeister Short Shift Kit. I installed the bushings and now can get firmly into gear.

The car is very difficult to roll in 1st, mainly just rocks. With my very very limited knowledge of manual transmissions, Im assuming that im connected to the eninge and should be in gear and ready to drive? Im waiting for my filters to arrive before i try to restart it.

adamr 02-07-2012 06:24 PM

help?

timmy2 02-07-2012 09:15 PM

If you are getting positive shifting into all gears and you can find neutral then I would say yes, start the car in Neutral Carefully.... As long as you've eliminated all the other problems you've brought up in the multiple threads you've started like white smoke and burning it down... :)
