Can I make my own Sport Seats??
I'm looking at seat covers at World Upholstery and Trim and I notice a section about new foam pads. Their add says that the foam wears out and I should consider replacing when I redo the seats. So ..... I was thinking??
Could I simply buy new sport seat foam and covers and create new sport seats out on my stockers?? It can't be that simple or I'm sure I would have seen threads about it before. Are there differences in the frames between the stockers and sports, or is it just the foam bolsters that are wider (as the World Upholstery suggest) ![]() Is this possible or am I just dreaming of new leather sport seats for cheap(er)

if you can think of a way to extend the frame for the side bolsters.

I've seen this company advertised in Panorama (link below). They convert standard seats to sport seats. Maybe they sell kits to do it yourself. Click on "sport seat conversion" on the Webpage (for some reason I can't copy a link to the actual page with the conversion info). Looks like the work is good. Perhaps someone on the board has had experience with them.

Tazziemann and Fastcarfan,
Thanks, helps answer the question, look like a conversion is possible but parts and welding are required. I think I look into the Heritage conversion and see how much that costs.

I did this. Converted my seats to a seat that looks like a sport seat.
It is a lot of work. The frame needs to be re-made. Sports seats are narrower than the regular seats. So a lot of metal fabrication has to be done to make it work. However what you end up with will not really be a sport seat, but would pass to the casual observer. To do it right you would have to have a sport seat, strip it down, then do your best to reproduce its frame. Depending on the year of manufacture even the mounting and rails may not be the same. Have you ever done upholstery work before? My seats are in storage, so I can't show you a picture.

I haven't done any upholstery work before. I was planning on buying the replacement covers, removing the seats and having a local shop do the work.

You would probably come out far ahead buying a set of sport seats and selling your standard ones to off-set the cost.
Beautiful ones are availabe out there for a grand....bet you will be in twice that much trying to convert yours.

Ben, have you seen the cost of sport seats for early cars. Cost more than the car in many cases.

I've looked a long time for used sport seats in my color in good condition and cant find any. To buy a used set and then have them recovered is about $3k total .... so thats why I started to think about making/kluging a set up. Oh well, looks like nice leather with perf inserts on my stock seats are in my future
Thanks all
