race oil
I tried searching, but my search for "oil" won't work.
I'm in a bind. My new 2.4 race motor is done and I need to decide which oil to run - basically need to order tomorrow. It seems I remember lots of discussions in the past on oil (frankly, I haven't been able to follow the forum much lately) and that there's no one answer. That said... Is there any consensus at all on what oil I should run? Anyone have recommendations or a point in the right direction? Thanks, Skip

Brad Penn 20w50 or Valvoline VR1 (non synthetic) is the typical answer..but for a race motor others may weigh in differently...

All three mentioned above are good choices. Motul is one additional choice that is probably available in your area from their large network of dealers.

Thanks all for the quick responses.
I should have mentioned... The builder wasn't overly concerned which oil I used and rattled off a few options (the three mentioned included) - he was also swamped. Thanks for the ultimate oil thread link. I knew that thread was out there, but couldn't figure out how to find it. I'll update myself. Thanks again...

If i were you i would inquire further into which oil to use in a race motor ... There are break in oils and procedures to follow !
I'm no expert but i would ask some of the people on this forum who have a lot of knowledge regarding engine rebuilds ... Just sayin ... Cheers ! Phil

In a race motor, I prefer using a synthetic oil with a fully synthetic Group V Esther base stock. That would be Red Line 40wt race oil. The higher RPM the motor spins at, the more my preference level for Red Line goes up.
