Another Airconditioning blowing warm air thread
 

My 3.2 '86 model had great aircon when I bought it 6 months ago. Now I switched it on today and mildy cooled air came form the vents (maybe only juuust less than ambient, but not 'hot'air.

I have looked at the R/D aetc but cant see any stickers for the R134 conversion, so I have no idea what refridgerant it runs.

I do however have what looks to be a small pressure switch screwed into the compressor where most people on this forum have a little red cab. The wires to the swtich loop down in series to the white diode mounted on the side of the compressor.

I think the compressor is running as the idle stumbles ever so slightly when I switch the A/C on. Also I have checked with a multimeter and I have 12v on each side of the pressure swtich connected to the diode when the switch is on (does this mean I can rule out the temperature switch capilary tube?)

Is there anything else I can check before taking to an A/C mechanic to check charge?

There are so many possibilities . . . if the compressor is running (verify that the clutch engages when turned on) the first thing to check would be charge pressures (need gauges to do that) . . .

There is a refrigerant check "sight guage" window in the reservior mounted in the back of the battery side wheelwell.

As the compressor first engages you should see a transition from gas to gas/liquid bubbles, then quickly to a clear liquid. Shut the compressor off and observe the reverse as the liquid refrigerant is depleted.
