Pardon the Ignorance.....

Hello All,

For many years now I have always wondered about Porsche. But have driven BMW's "M" brand all my life until I had the time to research these beast called Porsche's . It roars and takes corners as if it's life dependent on it. The engine sound alone would scare any yuppie in a BMW let alone get behind a well a tame one. The yuppie would cry and would not know what to do!!! ( As I did in my first couple of days of ownership,LOL) My choice is 82 911SC,135K miles. Mint Condition!! Last owner was a craze driven fanatic of the beast until his illness occur which effect his clutch pedal leg. I went about it with passion for my search but did my homework as well.Upgrade includes Carrera Tensinoer Kit, Lemke front oil cooler kit, Pop off Valve.(Please advise me if anything else would need to be done?), 2 Year old repaint job All and everything works!!

But my question would be of another topic. And again pardon the ignorance. What is a "RS" I did my search my of the web. Would someone please educate me. Specs and all??

Thanks

Well it's a long story

RS stands for RennSport which means Racing. Rs's are basically stock models that have had all "unnecessary" equipment removed to save weight. It all started with the Carrera RS 2.7 in 72/73. I had a link I wanted to post, but unfortunately I don't have it on this computer (link is on another which I can't access now).

Try to search on www.google.de

These cars are fun, aren't they?!

The 73 RS is considered by many/most to be the pinnacle of 911 design. To paraphrase from the book 'Carrera RS', sportscar construction is not about engine performance or aerodynamics. It is about power-to-weight ratios, with the weight more important than the power. Less weight does more for overall performance than big horsepower. This had been Porsche's design theme since the beginning and it culminated with the RS - basically a 2.4S with less weight and greater power. Beginning in 1974, Porsche took the 911 in a different direction - increased comfort. They attribute this to a change in homologation rules that said the weight of the race cars no longer had to be the same as production cars. This allowed Porsche's marketing people to add every conceivable creature comfort to the 911, while being free to strip all of the same stuff out for their race cars. New government safety and pollution regulations also added all sorts of non-essential equipment. All of which meant increased weight. Which, of course, meant increased power. And it became one big vicious circle that continues today with the overweight high-horsepower 996 - the very antithesis of Porsche's original vision. -- Curt

Cool

I'm with cegerer on the 911 personal attitude..I junked all the added BS on my humble 911..I think a new 911 buyer is different than the enthusast...Many guys around this BB have personalized the 911 better than factory new, IMO....So Rem, welcome to the land of high testosterone 911's............Ron

Welcome to SC ownership, Rem.
It sounds like your car was owned by an enthusiast-type....a very good thing!

The fabled Carrera RS.
A genuine one is now so rare and valuable, it's hardly prudent to drive it when the urge strikes.
Countless RS "replicas" (read: fakes) abound.

With your SC, you have a real Porsche 911 that will give you many miles of dependable driving pleasure.
