Front engine 911?!

Has anyone ever seen/done a conversion shown such as the one in this post?
I can't believe someone would go through so much work and hassle to ruin the car....any thoughts?

Hot Rod Porsche

I agree that this person ruined a 911....BUT we dont know what he started with and I feel that it is in our nature to want to create and reinvent things to our liking

I dont have any problem with what this guy did (of course I would never do or purchase something like this) but to each his own

I often get a kick out of the guys that go crazy when threads come up about LS1 conversions....Why? It makes no sense to me, I understand we have a passion for our cars, but bashing someone cause they want to do something that THEY feel is an improvement...I say to each their own have at it

Does everyone bash people when they take a 32 Ford and chop the top and throw a huge engine in the front? Whats the difference?

panos 02-11-2012 08:32 PM

yeah I completely agree....didn't mean to come off so harsh. Just unbelievable how technically creative and able people are. I could never imagine taking on such a major task but then again I love the 911 just the way it is

plumb4u2 02-11-2012 08:48 PM

Didn't think you were harsh panos

I love the 911 as is also, but I do admire people who like to reinvent the wheel as the see it through their eyes

After all if it wasn't for people throughout history who did this where would this world be?

panos 02-11-2012 08:50 PM

true...people may have thought the same of Dr. Ferdinand over 80 years ago

I do find it funny though that in his ad he posts a price of almost 50k and also said it might be a good parts car....lol

RSBob 02-11-2012 09:07 PM

I can just imagine where the gas tank is located. Can you say Pinto-magedden?

Heck, I feel the same way ever time I see one of those V-8 in a Porsche [911] threads....

Am guessing that a lot of bottom sheet metal is gone and replaced with a tube frame. I don't know how you would fit a chev small block with transmission attached in a 911 without a lot of liberal saws-all application...

HawgRyder 02-11-2012 10:07 PM

The only question I have is....WHY?

HarryD 02-11-2012 11:47 PM

I love the clear hood.

Is this just a 911 body on a 'vette or other donor chassis?

Making a front-engined 911 would require so many changes to the suspension, frame, cooling, fuel system, etc. that it wouldn't be a 911 any more.

Think about what one would have to do to make a rear-engined 'vette.

From what I take from his ad is that its a 77 chassis with 98 body

Does California not allow any hot rods to be registered or tagged for street?

People hot rod all kinds of cars all the time does this not happen in CA?

ivangene 02-12-2012 07:11 AM

I would not want to drive that thing at any sort of speed...those huge rear tires and what is holding them on the ground....the gas tank? when she does a 180 at turn in the gas tank is heading towards the wall....no wipers probably because no space for them.

and it's a cab

but whatever, I've certainly seen worse things done....

1976 and later cars are still required to be smogged in CA. There is an exception for a limited number of specially constructed vehicles (500 per year under a program known as SB100), but it only applies to cars that don't have a manufacturer specified VIN (i.e., kit cars or home built creations).
