Great advertisment. I can only imagine how nice the car would present itself in the original color? Perhaps that was the hot color back in '79. It 's all about personal choices. To each his own.

Do you think she'll pop out of the trunk when it arrives, whip in hand? Might be worth a bid or two.

Ya wanna know the kicker? They were offering the car for $9900 on their web site before the auction. I'm curious to see how high it goes.

As for the color change, I approve of it myself. Like most years, there seem to be a ton of red SWB 911s. Nice to see something different. Hard to believe a CA car with 36k miles needed paint - the Doc must have just gotten tired of the color.

Nice car, but the Skanks'R'Us ads are getting on my nerves. I feel like I can't even look at CC ads at work....

They've been toning it down lately. They had a 550 replica that they obviously didn't think needed anyone's help. And at their worst, they aren't as bad as some. One car a while back had some brunette in a negligee sprawled all over it, and the text said she'd be there to meet whoever one the auction - that was pretty sleazy...

Besides, I like Symone's hair better in this one, at least... And the car itself is gorgeous - those frickin' Californian's are blessed, I tell ya.

By the way, surprised no one noticed: I was one of the first bidders on that car.

I don't know, that sure looks like a new suspension pan to me. Trunk Pic Factory undercoating appears to be missing on the froward part of the pan and around the gas tank sender. That part on the gas tank looks exactly like mine does now after I blasted the rusted area and repainted. In fact, the whole thing looks just like my finished pan replacement project. That would be a lot of rust repair on a rust free car...

You're right - I hadn't clicked on that picture, or even noticed that it was a link from the pic of the trunk on the auction. The shot of the floors appears to start from the front driver's side wheel, so you don't see it from that angle. The 'pans themselves look original, though. I wasn't planning on bidding on it again. With 35 bids already, I'd say everyone's biding their time until the final day, when there will be a frenzy and it will go for more than it's worth (which is $11000 or so, imo).

If I change my mind, I'll e-mail them beforehand and see what's up. A shot of the battery tray would be reassuring, since that's what usually gets the suspension pan, iirc. And if there has been rust repair, I don't know that I'd mind if the job was done well.

Awesome car and great ad. However I'm not a Goth fan.

The Wrap Up!

Well, the auction's over. Supposedly, the guys get about a grand for an ad like this and you have to admit, they proved their worth; the car was initially posted for under ten grand, and it sold for $13,400!

I did e-mail them about the condition. The suspension pan was replaced, the left front fender had also had some rust repair, and the odometer had rolled over. Records on the car were spotty with no evidence of a rebuild, so one should be looming on the horizon. Have to admit they were candid about it's condition via e-mail, so the buyer should know what he's gotten into if he asked any questions. Still think it went much too high, though.
