ATTN: Charlotte Area Pelicans - Cars and Cappuccino - Sunday, February 12th @ 9:00 AM

Hi All,

A couple quick notes about this weekend. It sounds like Cars and Coffee is holding their rain date this Saturday. Cars and Cappuccino will continue to be held at 9:00 AM this Sunday. Hopefully you will have time for both events.

For those of you unfamiliar with Cars and Cappuccino, this is European sports car gathering held at the Dean and Deluca store at Phillips Place in the SouthPark area of Charlotte. It is still fairly small (13 cars last month) and congenial. We are hoping it will appeal a little more to P, F and L-car owners and enthusiasts, and so far it has.

For those of you who don't visit this Dean and Deluca location often, you may be unaware that it is undertaking an expansion at this time. This expansion has taken up some of the parking lot, complete with a construction fence that makes our regular parking area "sub-optimal".

Fortunately, Dean and Deluca maintains a separate location adjacent to its main store, called the Dean and Deluca Wine Room. Per the GM, we have been OK'd to park in the spaces along the main boulevard that runs directly in front of the D&D Wine Room.

Another change since last month includes the creation of a Cars and Cappuccino Facebook page. Anyone can visit it, even if you are NOT signed up for a Facebook account. You can follow the link below to view the information section and take some time to check out the "wall". And of course, if you do have a Facebook account, feel free to give us a "like".

Finally, several of us will be bringing some vintage "automobilia" like late-70's IMSA yearbooks and potentially a racing helmet that once belonged to Momo Moretti. If you have anything in a similar vein that you are comfortable sharing, please consider bringing it along.

I look forward to meeting some of you on Sunday morning, weather permitting, of course.

OK...if you are already a Facebook user and haven't already signed up for tomorrow's event, please do so using the event button near the top left of the Cars and Cappuccino Facebook page. The link is in my signature. If you aren't registered or forget, no worries ; )

It will be chilly and sunny tomorrow AM, but not to worry, we can migrate between our cars and the Dean and Deluca shop. I'll have a few copies of some vintage IMSA yearsbooks ('78 and '80) that we can peruse while sipping our cappuccinos. If Robin doesn't get scared off by the cold, he may bring his Momo Moretti helmet and few tools of the trade - his cameras. Hopefully we can get some interesting shots near the Phillips Place fountains.

And remember, we are parking along the main boulevard within Phillips Place, directly in front of the Dean and Deluca Wine Room. After you park, find your way over to the Dean and Deluca store diagonally across the street, introduce yourself to the guy in the leather jacket with the red stripes (me) and commence with the mingling. I'll be driving the '85 M491 Targa with this plate (below) on the front. Hope to see you there tomorrow at 9:00 AM. We usually wrap around 11:00 AM. Auf wiedersehen!

Hate to hijack guys, but has anyone ever dealt with Streetside Classics in Charlotte? My brother in law is considering buying a 1978 Mercedes from them this week as a 40th birthday present for my sister in law. Just want to know their reputation. Thanks in advance. Enjoy your sunny weather. Snowing and 25 degrees up here...

Oh it is sunny here...and about 25 degrees at start time. WAY too cold for us down here.

As for Streetside, can't say I know anything about them. Short of the standard "get a PPI" advice, not much more I can offer.

And here is a pic courtesy of Robin Thompson of www.art-racing.com fame. This pretty much some up today's conditions. More pics on the Facebook page noted in my signature below.

Thanks tdw! I really appreciate the response. I trust my fellow Pelicans' opinions and was hoping someone had dealt with them. He kind of waited until the last minute and I told him I would see what I could come up with.

Too bad it is so cold down there. Hope Florida will be warm next week. Taking the kids to Disney.

If your brother-in-law wants/needs a dyed-in-the-wool German-bred former race wrencher to perform the PPI, let me know. I have THE guy.

I'm sure Florida will be warm.

They deal in only consignment sales, so the quality of the car is dependent on the seller. Get an independent inspection. We had okay luck selling a relatives car 2 years ago.
