Clutch Pressure plate
Hi All
Got my 915 gearbox back from the repairers today, i am going to marry up the engine and box back together this weekend, the one thing that I'm not sure of is that in my workshop manual it say's i should make up 3 spacers with 6mm cap hex bolts to screw into the thread in each of the 3 rivet heads on the pressure plate to relieve pressure on the 3 springs (Sachs pressure plate). But the rivet heads are not threaded so i think the pressure plate must of been fitted without this being done. Any advice please. Dave. |

Can't tell you how many times I've bolted a pplate to flywheel.
Never have used the hex bolts. just don't bolt it down tight untill you marry tranny and eng together . the disc must be able to move around so you don't have a problem with input shaft. once together tighten pplate bolts that you can see through starter hole .turn over eng to make sure you get all 9 bolts. |

that spacer thing was a factory manual suggestion for the 70/71 clutches only. don't know why because all that's needed is to pull the release arm toward the pressure plate and turn the t/o bearing 90 degrees with a screwdriver. yours just needs a pilot shaft through the p/plate and into the pilot bearing as you evenly tighten the 9 bolts. a trick is to snug up 3 evenly spaced bolts just enough to hold the disc and tap the pilot shaft sideways until it goes in and out easily. then tighten them all.

Great tip - should reduce friction.
