Pre 1980 VIN Search??

I am looking at buying a 79 ROW SC with the older Non 17 digit VIN... Do you guys know of a way to check for previous history on the older VIN's? Carfax and all those want 17 digits

You can't, without going to individual DMVs and going through records, hoping you'll get lucky. VINs didn't become standardized until 1982, and Carfax wasn't even founded until 1984.

The only way to get history is through service records. if they still exist. That's why a good PPI is so critical.
