Need Budget price for a Roll Cage
New to the forum. I'm the new owner of an 86 Carrera that I'd like to take to the track someday. Before doing so I'm putting a budget together for the various things I need to get in order to track the car.
From our host and other places its pretty east to estimate the cost of safety gear (helmets, etc..) the one item I'm trying to guesstimate is the cost to install a roll cage. I'm in SoCal, any idea on what I should budget for a roll cage? Any opinion on who to go to for a price for a cage? Anyone that I should avoid? Thanks in advance |

Between $1,000 and $6,000.
Unfortunately your question is too broad, you need to narrow the scope to get a better answer. e.g. Simple roll bar, 2 point, bolt in or weld in Rear roll cage, 4 point, bolt in or weld in Front and rear, 6 point F, R and suspension mounting points

I have cage kit that I bought from RothSport Racing. It is a replica of a Matter cage. It comes with all the pipe that has a bend in it so you just buy the straight pipe and weld it all up. I just bought a race car that has the cage already so for sale at $800. I also have a truck going to LA in the next week so delivery is possible or can ship Greyhound. I am in Seattle

There is no such thing as a budget roll cage ... You get what you pay for and it's all according to your needs !
If you're just going to do the occasional day at the track, all you need is a bolt in roll bar like a DAS or something similar to secure your harnesses, otherwise you're looking at permanently hacking your street car ... I paid $600.00 for my Das bar and it suits my needs perfectly for now ... Cheers ! Phil

I paid for a custom cage for my 83 911 that was built to SCCA IT specs. It was done by a well known local shop for $2200, including tax, not painted. $4k should get you a pretty elaborate cage tied into suspension points, etc.
$1k is pretty much DIY cost. I've made cages for rally and Lemons using a manual tube bender, software to calculate where to bend and how much and an Eastwood 175 welder.

Budget for a roll cage?
How much do you value yourself? ...and it does not matter how often you go to the track. Bolt-in is not going to meet any sanctioning body rules. Also a cage is a bad idea in a street car. |

Guys, he said BUDGET for a cage......NOT a BUDGET CAGE. Play nice! Welcome to the forum. I'd say if you allowed yourself about $2500 for an installed cage you'd be reasonably prepared. Price will also vary depending on how your car will arrive and leave the shop (interior and carpet?).
Purpose and sanctioning body is next big question. Sure we can all say SAFETY, but honestly some rules allow a MAX number of ties to frame. And we all need to balance weight/safety as well as cost/safety. I think Shoei puts it best....we may not be the cheapest but I guess it depends on what your putting in it. I have two welded caged race cars and one DE car with bolt in cage........if your going to race - get a weld in!
