Anyone ever try to re-cover a targa top using this?
From an eBay seller:
Dan Petchel - Car's Inc. (great guy) re-did the one on my old '81 about 10 years ago but now the one on my '83 is shot. The mechanicals work just fine but the cover is done. I'm wondering if this is something I could do myself. The car is cosmetically challenged right now and likely will remain just a driver so I'm looking for a down and dirty top right now.... TIA for any feedback. ;) |

THANKS! Looks like it indeed is do-able! I've R and R'd a 3.0, replaced SC carpeting, door panels, bumpers, brakes, suspension....hey...how hard can a Targa top be? Thanks again for the head's up on this thread - & have a great w/e! SmileWavy |
BAZZA I would be interested on how the project goes as I am contemplating doing mine was well.
Did you buy the eBay vinyl? Curious to know how it looks. Please post the how you did it, if you would be so kind. Thanks! |

NO turning back now. Got a little anxious so I removed the vinyl. Head liner is in pretty good shape so might not replace. Under foam also look decent.
Weird, MO: 14 or 74 was written w a sharpie on the foam, not sure what that means. Now to source the vinyl. Looking forward to the review and install. Thanks. |
Any updates? I havent ordered a skin yet and am dying to recover mine.
Every day that passes, is time that causes me to forget how I removed the old one, lol. Thanks! |
WOW, it is so cool to see my old post still around and others being helped by them.
That what is so good about pelican parts forum. It was Sep. of 2006 when I covered my top...with the help of others on this board, and decided to of a little write up to add my 2cents worth. This is the payoff for me, to be able to help others in the same way I was helped by someone else. Keep it goin y'all.................... |
KC - YES - great job sir - I/we/the Pelican nation salutes you! SmileWavy
Jeremy.....I have not received my order yet but it should be any day. You're an adventurous soul to dive in before you even ordered replacement parts! When I pulled my 3.0.....over 10 years ago BTW.... I remember the advice I was given about taking lots of digital photos along the way, taking notes, and marking stuff so you know what it does and where it goes. I'm following the same philosophy when I do my top! Pretty busy with work right now so this job will not happen right away but I hope sometime in the next 6 weeks anyway... In the meantime bon chance and please keep us posted (and I will too) :) |
OK I cant wait anymore, going to chance the eBay vinyl and hope its decent.
Besides there is a 30 day return policy  |
