Can I mate a 911 trans with a 3,0 SC engine?
Hi,
I am thinking about doing a 3.0 SC swap into a 1971 911 with a 911 gearbox. I am just concerned about the 9 bolted flywheel on the 3.0 engine and how that would work with a 911 trans. Hasnt the 911 the same flywheel as a 901? Please let me know... Thanks, Johan |
No. 6 bolt vs 9 bolt - you'll need a new flywheel. I just went through this last winter. Even with early 915 it was still 6 bolt. You'll also need a new pilot bearing - it's a completely different piece.

Come to think of it, you'll need to reuse your old exhaust too, because the throw out fork won't clear the crossover pipe on the later exhaust. Search my name and have a look through my thread about the swap.

The 3.0 flywheel 78/79 uses the same pilot bearing of the 1970s engines so the 3.0, 78/79 flywheel will allow the clutch package of the 911 trans to mate.

Hi Bruce,
So you are saying that I can bolt it all together as long as I have the 3.0 flywheel, engine from 78-79 (638xxxx-639xxxx), and the 911 trans clutch package? True about the exhust, I was going to reuse my older one for more HP. Thanks, Johan |
Ok, glad that was cleared up. I did 'at know that. My 3.0 was from an 82.
