Just checked my files and the tunnel bushing was replaced at the same time as all the other bushings and couplings.

Old thread, but the follow- up is this is just a temporary fix. Might get stuck again after another sloppy shift. The problem is the detent in the center housing was reassembled in the wrong position on the last tranny repair. If you pry out the plug on top of that detent bore and can fish out the detent with a skinny magnet, then a partial disassemble is needed to get the detent back in place.

Thanks for the advise, but that isnt the same as mentioned in the first post of this thread. This trans has worked just fine for 35k mi since last opened. There was no sloppy shift on my part. I was parked and tried to select reverse with the subsequent result.

If you would be so kind, would you explain which detent you are referring on the attached schematic? Thank you.

Happiness is finding reverse.

Solution was a variation on the shift rod bushing problem.

After working on the shifter assembly a while back the bushing flange wasn't fastened correctly and eventually allowed one last shift into reverse before becoming jambed and keeping 5/R engaged while still allowing the shifter execute the 1-4 pattern. Moving into 5 or R was much more difficult than normal.

Upon reinstallation and fastening the bushing flange correctly 5/R disengaged and everything became operational again.
