Any quick fix for leaking doors?

Hi there,

I'm on my second 1975 911 now. Both my cars had/have an annoying leak coming from the doors. I think the water might be entering around the ends of the rubber wiper strip on the exterior at the base of the door glass. It seems inevitable that water will make its way in around the wiper, but once its inside the door why does it make its way into the interior and not exit out the drain holes? Has anyone else experienced this issue. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Spencer

Are you sure the water is not coming in from around the windshield?

Haven't noticed any indication that it might be the windshield. I don't have any carpets so when it rains I can always see drips on the door sill on the interior side of the threshold.

is the plastic lining in place between the door and the interior panel?

If the door seal (the one going around the outside of the door) is hard or crushed in places...you can get a leak.
Replace if you want...or perhaps try rubbing the seal with Dow 111 Silicon grease.
The Dow stuff makes the rubber puff up a little bit and keeps it supple (non-hard?...LOL).

On a 1975 car you might just replace both door rubber gaskets... everything will fit a whole lot tighter. But the windshield was my problem. Look very carefully in the windshield corners, lift the rubber gasket and be sure you have a nice strong tight seal between the rubber gasket and the body metal. If the rubber has lost its strength, or just barely reaches the metal, replace the gasket.

The water does get in the door and it does drain out the bottom, provided the holes at the bottom are open and the plastic liner is in place.
