Running too hot?
I was driving my 73 today and noticed the temps were reaching the 210 -220 degree mark.My 69 runs at 190 consistently. Is 220 too hot?

Yes, that is too hot Jay, like you said 190 is the norm... could it be that your oil thermostat has quit working? I had that happen on my 75 once. Good Luck

Should I quit driving the car all together until this problem is fixed?

220 is not too hot. 250+ is too hot. 250 is "Too Damn Hot" quoting Bruce Anderson.
The temp that your car runs at will depend on ambient temp and the load you are presenting to the car. 180 to 250 is considered normal operating range. I would be more concerned if I were not running Mobil 1.

220f is not too hot. It is just about ideal for a street car. Just hot enough to boil off condensates.

There are 2 plateaus in the temp rise pattern for 911 engines with a front mounted oil cooler.
This is due to the fact that there are 2 thermostats in the cooling circuit.[list=a][*]the first for the engine mounted cooler opens at around ~80C(176F)[*]the second for the external front mounted cooler opens at ~ the same temp as the engine mount but there is a delay because the oil is cooled first by the engine mount. If ambient temp is in the middle area, not too hot ,not too cold then the engine mount carries the whole load.
