911 6 volt to 12 volt conversion
 
I have searched every way that I could and cannot find the "instructions" for converting my 69 to a 12 volt system. Could someone show me the link? Also, does anyone make a conversion kit?

Should be the same as a 356, try searching the 356 registry. But I'm confused Porsche switched to 12 volt in 1965 as a option for the 356, and I thought standard on the 911.

I never heard of a 6 volt 911. That does not mean they don't exist. I am real surprised that a 1969 912 could be a 6 volt.

no need to do it because it's already 12V. they use two 12v batteries.

Don't eliminate the second battery. Keep it stock! I actually had to hunt down the battery straps and positive cable to put mine back to the way it was. It will work fine the way it is.

Looks like a standard sized battery has been stuffed into the left battery box though. And a home made battery strap was added. I ended up using two Deka sealed AGM (absorbed glass mat) batteries. Use sealed batteries to prevent further rusting of your battery boxes and pan.

I was going to go to one battery that was mounted in the smuggler's box. Are you telling me that I have two twelve volt batteries?

You have a 12 volt system. Since the picture only shows the left battery box, I can't tell if the second 12v battery is installed. Only a hunch, but since the shown battery is a "standard" sized battery half hanging out of your left battery box, the PO might have disconnected the right battery. I looks like you have the positive battery cable for the right side connected. In a two battery setup, both batteries are in parallel. Both batteries' negative terminal are grounded to the frame by the battery boxes. The main positive harness is connected to the left battery. A second positive cable runs from the left battery positive terminal around and behind the gas tank to the right battery terminal. Hope that makes sense.

Early 911s turned out to be somewhat squirrely - as a remedy the factory soon started to fit 20 lb cast iron weigths to the corners of the front bumpers.
From '69 on those were no longer used (by then they had come up with a few somewhat more technical solutions like improved steering, more adjustable suspension, longer wheelbase), but as placing something heavy into the front corners had turned out to be a good thing, at the same time they replaced the single large battery with two smaller (36 Ah) ones below the lamp pods.
So yes, you should have two small 12 V batteries.

If you have a right battery cable and it is not connected to a battery, it must be isolated or it will short and you can have a fire.
