Question Old Windshield

The windshield on my 88 w/ 109,000 miles is really "sandblasted". Are there any polishing compounds that would work on glass? I've tried a very mild polishing compound but it didn't help. Any ideas??

Cool

Why not replace it with a nice new one?? Mine is in the same condition and I just got a quote to have it replaced for $200. That includes them driving out to were my car is and the full installation. My windshield seal in only a year old otherwise they would have installed a new one for an additional $60. Good luck!!

Cool WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT IN SACTO AREA???CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND A GOOD GLASS SHOP IN THE

The best price quote for a new non-OEM windshield was about $450. in Sacramento, Northern California, without a new seal and I have to take the Porsche into the glass shop.

Other price quotes were anywhere from $800 to $1600. for a aftermarket and used OEM windshield.

CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND A GOOD GLASS SHOP IN THE SACRAMENTO AREA?

CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND A PORSCHE WINDSHIELD AFTERMARKET BRAND???

Eastwood has a product that may help. Check out this link:
http://www.eastwoodco.com/cgi-bin/sgsh0101.exe?AID=43625&FNM=20&PID=12778&SKW=rhodite&UID=%21%2BUSID%21

I haven't used it myself so I can't say whether it is effective.
Good luck

Porsche Crest Pitting problem...

Judi,
Find an Amway rep., they do have a great product that works like wax, but is perfectly clear when done right, specific to windshields. I used it years ago, but don't remember the name. Good luck.

I don't like coatings on my glass. Those of you who like to use waxes (like Rain-X), more power to ya. Clean glass works for me. I also don't like glass polishing. It curves the glass which bends the light coning through it. Like really old house windows.

I also notice that glass is an interesting 'racket.' When I got my glass replaced for only the insurance deductable, I told my friends (guys who like cars) about it weeks later at a camping trip. Before I mentioned cost, Bill asked "Let me guess....you got your glass replaced and pocketed $50, right?" I said "No, I paid the deductable." Three of them said I should shop better. Two said they get calls occasionally from friends in the glass business offering to replace glass, waive the deductable and pay the car owner $50 to $100. Apparently, labor is cheap and the glass can be had for a song, in many cases.

Safelite billed my insurance company around $400 to $500, as I recall. I'll bet they paid less than $10 for the aftermarket (PPG) glass.
