84 CAB VDO clock

Weird problem. Clock runs when rar runs, not when engine is off. Always have 12 volts to clock when engine is off, ie always hot. It seems like it needs more voltage, like the car is running to work ,Does not run when attached directly to battery.

Any ideas out there

Steve

Sounds to me like one of the 2 capacitors in the clock has failed

yes, I did take the clock apart and bought two new caps at radioshack. Will put them and see what happens

This might be a case of luck beating skill

well i am so happy to say I replaced the caps and presto the clock is ticking away.
I was so glad, i was going to send it to Hollywood speed ( good guys BTW) and they would fix it for 160 bucks. Now for 4 bucks it is just great. Tweaked the ring a bit taking the clock apart but is is fine now

hot
