halfshaft seal leaks
Just got my 73t on the road after sitting 20years! Trans was emty when I got it. Thought i would try Lucas synthetic 80/90 .After about 50miles , halfshaft seals started slingging oil. FIGURING THAT THE SEALS are 40 years old, I replaced them. Next I drained the lucas oil figuring the seals weren't fond of the synthetic oil. I put 2quarts of reguler 90wt in and went around the block to do washout. Next I drained that out and filled with swepco 201. Still leaking. Could the lucas synthetic have messed up the seals? The new seals didn't seem to be very snug on the halfshafts. Bought them from our host , the #s where correct (45mm) Any thoughts?

No the oil wouldn't affect your seals ...i use synthetic oil in my gearbox and have no leaks.
After 20 years of storage you can't expect a car to drive as if it was parked yesterday and trouble free. Before you go too far i would replace all the fluids, brake lines ,fuel filter, clean out the tank, etc ... otherwise you will cause even more severe damage ! Although i'm sure you did all that right ??? Just sayin ... Cheers ! Phil

Everything has been done front to back. Motor complete, fuel system tank to carbs , brakes totaly done , even fixed the clock! the thing runs like a bear. Onlyproblem is the leaks at the halfshafts! VERY frustrating! The halfshaft sealing surface was not grooved or pitted. As I said, the new seals didn't seem to be very snug on the shaft.
