Help installing pre-74 arm rests in 74+
 

Hi All,

I'm in the process of backdating the interior in my 3.2 carrera, and have some questions regarding the arm rest.

It appears that the door panel itself, is the same as the earlier cars. It seems like the indent in the door (yellow circle) is designed to fit the hump on the arm rest (green circle). However, when I put the arm rest against the door panel (without door card), the back of the arm rest is not flush with the door panel. Is this supposed to just be filled by the door card? Or will I need to file this down?

Regarding the cable routing, you can see the 3.2 carrera OEM cable to the right of the red circle. The connector for the pre-74 door handle seems to line up around the red circle. Is the cable supposed to route through that hole?

And finally, I see that the connector on the pre-74 door handle lever is free to swivel around. Is it just necessary that the cable is very tight in order to open the door? What is the best way to shorten the cable length? Cut and crimp a new hook? Are there adjustable types available? Is the easiest option to buy the OEM pre-74 door latch cable?

there are some threads speculating about putting 1974-on pockets in an earlier car - not sure if anyone ever posted that they had done it, much less how to do it

Yes, the pockets seem the easy part, as I have an updated 74+ style pocket that is designed to work with the earlier handle.

Even mounting the early arm rest itself looks ok, just need some advice re the door latch cable routing from a stock early car, and how it compares to the 74+ routing.
