Wich muffler with SSI?

Hello fellow 911'ers!

I need to upgrade the entire exhaust system on my 1972 911 (1975 2,7S engine), but I do not know which muffler will give the best sound in combination with SSIs. I am looking for something which is "neighborhood friendly" but still gives a nice sporty sound. The nice guys at Pelican Parts have suggested Dansk OEM, Dansk Sport, M&K and Bursch, but I have no idea which will be best for my car, if any of these will add more HP or if there are any issues concerning fit with any of these mufflers. Anyone?

I have an m&k 2 in 1 out and it sounds really nice. Loud but not stupid loud.
I suspect a 2 out will have you hated by the whole neighborhood.
A search will reveal a whole heap of info on this.
Cheers
Nick

The dansk 2 in 1 out is closest to original.

Thanks for speedy replies, much appreciated!

Regarding Dansk, should I go for the OEM or the Sport - and is there much difference in sound?

I have the Dansk Sport 2 in-2 out with my SSI.... Fun sound but lots of low RPM drone in cab. I wish I had the 2 and 1 out sport as I have one side block off now and it is nice.

Thanks to all!

Based on your kind advice I've now decided to go for Dansk Sport 2 in 1 out.

Can't wait to get it all set up and rolling as soon as the snow melts!

You'll love this setup. I personally have SSI's with the standard Dansk 2in 1out, but when I started my engine for the first time with the upgraded exhaust. I honestly was giddy as a school boy. If there were no other benefits to SSI's other than the sound, they are worth every penny.

2 in 1 out

I replaced an incorrect rattling 2 in 1 out sport muffler with the Dansk SS 2 in 1 out on my 930/10 with SSI. The sport muffler was a bit too loud for my preferences. The Dansk 2 in 1 out has a nice crackle from the cams at idle and no resonance drone to drive you out of the car like most 2 in 2 out. However, at about 2600 to 3000 the exhaust note picks up a little bit on my 3.0. Your 2.7 will probably have a slightly different range. The 2 in 2 out mufflers are a different animal and I recommend checking the posts of people that use them.

I have worked in the design & manufacture of aftermarket exhaust and 90%+ of the time is it all about the "sound" and/or the marketing image. There is a marketing reason for all of the bikini girls on the calendar and at the SEMA show. I have rarely seen exhaust companies supply dyno test data corrected for atmospheric conditions to make apples to apples comparisons. Low humidity at sea level can make some nice numbers and just the day to day changes can skew the data.

Personally I like hearing the mechanical sound of the boxer 6 engine rev above the exhaust note at higher RPM. I did not want to sound like the kid in the import with the 3" straight thru muffler. Remember that the traffic police will notice the sporty sound and P cars tend to be a ticket target in some areas. It is your car & your money so make yourself happy with the "sound" and be as loud and proud as you dare!

The 2 in 1 out sport muffler you selected for the 2.7 should give you the "sound" you were seeking and maybe a few more HP to boot. Good Luck!

just food for thought on this No 2in1 out should drone Ours does not nor monty nor Dansk. It is the 2 outs that all drone at a certain rpm range regardless of brand

Go for an MK two in TWO out! Good combo with SSI's.

They sound awesome with one side capped off!
Sporty, loud enough and lightweight to boot.
And very well built too.
Cap one side off and it will not be over the top, open up whenever you want to have some loud fun.
That's the way I do it.
